The Di Giovanna family has been cultivating organic vineyards for five generations in western Sicily, just outside the town of Sambuca di Sicilia. Brothers Gunther & Klaus manage the family’s 56 hectare estate and winery where their hand crafted wines are made and bottled. Their wines are made exclusively with their estate fruit and all of their vineyards are certified organic by Suolo e Salute SRL.

Wine Description:
This new blend is the expression of our unique high altitude vineyards and soils. ‘Helios’ comes from the Greek ‘sun’ named after father Aurelio and inspired by Sicily’s unique luminousity that makes for perfectly ripe grapes. The sun of Sicily gives the warm richness that you find each glass of Helios Rosso.

Hand harvested grapes in boxes of 20 kg each, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation in oak barrels with manual punching and native yeasts. Long maceration (20-21gg) and malolactic fermentation. Aging for 9 months in French oak barrels for 50% new and the remaining second year.

Deep red in color with shades of brick. Fresh fruity nose and spicy well integrated with the contributions of the wood. In the mouth pleasantly persistent and length that has been accompanied by soft tannins and a bright acidity thanks to the high altitudes of the vineyards.

Food Suggestions:
Pasta with tomato sauce and eggplant or ragu di cingiali. Pair with aged cheeses like pecorino or grana padana.
